12 Injured As 22-Wheeled Lorry Hit Passenger Bus In Myanmar

– A total of 12 people were injured last night, when a 22-wheeled lorry hit a passenger bus in south-eastern Myanmar’s Kayin state.

The accident occurred on an Asian Highway at 4:15 p.m. local time, involving a passenger bus, carrying Myanmar workers, heading for Thailand, according to U Hla Shwe, head of the White Pearl Rescue Organisation.

“The bus driver and a passenger on board were critically injured, and they were sent to Hpa-An General Hospital,” U Hla Shwe said, adding that, 12 people, including the bus driver, out of the more than 40 people onboard the bus were injured. The other injured people were under treatment at the Kawkareik Hospital.

“The 22-wheeled lorry driver fled from the scene. Most of the injured are not in critical condition. The passenger bus driver was dragged out of the bus and in critical condition,” a police officer from Kayin State, said.
