FLOODS: LAST RELIEF CENTRE IN PERAK CLOSED

The flood situation in the state has fully recovered after the last relief centre at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Changkat Lobak was closed this afternoon.

Kerian District Disaster Management Committee (JPBD) chairman Mohd Sabli Bakri said the relief centre housed 42 victims from 10 families.

“All the affected residents were allowed to return home after floodwater in the affected area receded,” he said in a statement here.

Mohd Sabli said that the authorities would continue to monitor the situation in low-lying areas, especially those located near rivers.

He also expressed his gratitude to all parties and agencies involved including non-governmental organisations, that had helped ensure the smooth operation of the relief centre at SK Changkat Lobak.

It was reported that a torrential downpour since last Thursday had resulted in floods in some parts of Taiping and Kerian, forcing the opening of several relief centres to accommodate flood victims.
