Cambodia to Launch Samdech Thipadei Award for Khmer Traditional Martial Arts

Cambodia will launch the Samdech Thipadei Award for Khmer Traditional Martial Arts in October to mobilise the best athletes across the country.

H.E. Vath Chamroeun, Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC), unveiled the plan following a meeting of the event’s organising committee chaired by H.E. Dr. Thong Khon, Senior Minister in Charge of Special Mission, on Aug. 1.

The main federations to be part of the first of its kind of the Khmer traditional martial art championship include the Kun Khmer Federation, the Cambodia Mixed Martial Arts Federation, the Cambodia Kun Bokator Federation of Cambodia, and the Yutkromkhorm Federation of Cambodia.

The registration of athletes is now open to interested athletes, though they are not part of any federation.

According to the secretary general, the Ministry of Information will support the organising committee of the championship in spreading information to attract as many athletes as possible.

One of the two competitions is the Khmer t
raditional martial art performance, which is open to athletes and volunteers from 18 to 65 years old and aims to open an opportunity for elder athletes to showcase their knowledge of the sport.

Another competition, fighting, includes seven categories for men and five for women.
