Deputy FM attends APEC preparatory meeting in Peru

A senior South Korean diplomat has attended a multilateral meeting in Peru to discuss preparations for this year’s Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit slated for November, the foreign ministry said Monday.

Kim Hee-sang, deputy foreign minister for economic affairs, took part in the Third Senior Officials’ Meetings for APEC in Lima, a two-week-long session that ended Sunday (local time).

Kim had meetings with his counterparts of Peru, the United States, China, Japan and others to share the latest on each of the member countries’ preparations for the upcoming APEC summit, which will be held in Peru.

South Korea is set to host the next APEC summit in the country’s southeastern region of Gyeongju in 2025.

Kim also used the session to present South Korea’s preparation efforts and introduce the main themes being floated for next year’s APEC, among others.

APEC has 21 member states, including South Korea, the U.S., Canada and the 10-member Association of Southeast Asian Nations.
