Border Infrastructure Development Fund Collects Almost US$11 Million

As of the evening of Aug. 28, the Border Infrastructure Development Fund focusing on border ring road construction has collected nearly US$11 million from more than 180,000 charitable people.

The figures were shared by H.E. Neth Pheaktra, Minister of Information, stressing that the amounts of financial contributions from Cambodians from all walks of life keep increasing.

‘This nationalist campaign has received tremendous support from people across the country, a historical event of Cambodia,’ he said.

While Cambodian people, both inside and outside the country, have contributed to the fund, a small group of extremist opposition abroad has accused that the Royal Government had run out of money, that’s why it was raising money from the people.

H.E. Pen Bona, Minister Delegate Attached to the Prime Minister and Chairperson of the Royal Government Spokesperson Unit, responded that such accusation was just repeated deceptions as it had been heard for decades.

He explained that the Border Infrastructure Deve
lopment Fund focusing on border ring road construction was established at the request of the people and showed their overwhelming support to the Royal Government.

The fundraising campaign was announced by Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet in a statement on Aug. 22, 2024 on the ‘One-Year Achievements of the Royal Government of the 7th Legislature of the National Assembly, aiming to raise additional funds and to provide an opportunity for the citizens, both inside and outside the country, to contribute directly with the Royal Government in the cause of national defence and development through infrastructure construction along the border.
