Minister, AFD Discuss Progress of Water Development Projects

Minister of Water Resources and Meteorology has received a delegation of the French Agency for Development (AFD) in Cambodia led by its Acting Director Mr. Emmanuel Dollfus to discuss the progress of joint water development projects.

In the meeting on Aug. 29 at the ministry, H.E. Thor Chetha thanked AFD for its contribution to the development of water resources and meteorology in Cambodia.

He appreciated the results of the ongoing phase 1 of the Water Resource Management and Agro-Ecological Transition in Cambodia (WAT4CAM) programme supported by AFD in its targeted provinces.

The programme is well in line with Cambodia’s national development priorities, he said, suggesting the AFD team consider expanding it to the second phase.

The minister also requested AFD to accelerate the execution of its new project to develop the Svay Chek River as a key irrigation in Banteay Meanchey province.

Mr. Emmanuel Dollfus commended the ministry for its strong cooperation in the implementation of the phase 1 of the WAT4
CAM programme, which he observed noticeable results and progress during his inspection earlier.

According to the acting director, the Svay Chek River development project will be ready for signing between the ministry and AFD in October this year.
