Number Of Dengue Cases Drop, One Death Recorded In 34th Epi Week – MOH

KUALA LUMPUR, The number of dengue cases for 34th epidemiological week (Epi Week) from Aug 18 to 24 dropped to 1,980 cases with one death due to complications, compared to 2,294 the previous week.

Health director-general Datuk Dr Muhammad Radzi Abu Hassan said the cumulative cases of dengue reported till the 34th Epi Week was 94,807 case compared to 78,277 cases for the same period last year.

‘There are 84 deaths due to dengue complications reported (this year) compared to 55 deaths in the same period for 2023,’ he said in a statement today, adding that the number of hotspots reported for 34th Epi Week was 85 localities compared to 91 localities the week before.

From the total, 68 hotspots were in Selangor, four each in Negeri Sembilan and Kelantan, three each in The Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya as well as Perak, two hotspots in Sabah and one in Kedah.

For chikungunya surveillance, he said there were two cases reported in 34th Epi Week, bringing the cumulative cases to 68 and there w
as no chikungunya outbreak reported in 34th Epi Week.

‘For zika surveillance, 1,781 blood samples, eight urine samples and three cerebrospinal fluid samples were taken for zika screening and were all negative,’ he added.
