Angkasa Doubling Efforts To Unearth New Petanque Talents

KOTA BHARU, Angkatan Koperasi Kebangsaan Malaysia Berhad (Angkasa) is doubling its efforts to discover new talents for more prestigious petanque tournaments both locally and internationally.

Angkasa deputy president Dr Azlan Yahya said that its annual tournament has produced many athletes from Angkasa members who have gone on to represent their states and the country in the sport at higher levels.

“This tournament, now in its 34th year, has become one of the platforms for discovering new talents, including from youth cooperatives and schools.

“Some previous participants have competed in the SEA Games, and some even became champions at the Malaysia Games (SUKMA) in Sarawak,” he told reporters after the Gala Dinner in conjunction with the National-Level Angkasa Petanque Championship here yesterday.

He added that petanque, with 7.2 million members nationwide, offers a great opportunity through this tournament to support and elevate the country’s reputation in the sport.
