Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairman Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin welcomed the appointment of the 12 new members of the committee for the 15th Parliament.

She said the new members, comprising professionals such as doctors, lawyers and engineers, as well as those from the media and finance, were appointed by the Parliament’s Select Committee yesterday.

They include former Minister of Higher Education Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad, former Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry Sim Tze Tzin and Datuk Ali Biju, who once served as Deputy Minister of Energy and Natural Resources.

“The presence of Datuk Seri Noraini as a member of the 15th Parliamentary PAC is a history for PAC itself as she was PAC chairman from April 2019 to March 2020,” said Mas Ermieyati in a statement today.

She said PAC plays a check and balance role, especially when it involves financial policy, procurement and governance.

According to her, the experience of members who have held positions in the government can make the PAC more authoritative and respected in ensuring its reports have an impact on the government.

She called for cooperation from all members to ensure the PAC can play its role more effectively for the government.
