SEOUL, President Yoon Suk Yeol held his first meeting with the presidential Economic, Social and Labor Council on Tuesday and encouraged its members to produce solutions to labor-management issues with a view to creating a sustainable future, his office said.
The meeting, held over lunch at the presidential office, followed a plenary council session in the morning, which marked the start of tripartite discussions between labor, management and the government under the current administration.
The council is a tripartite consultation body tasked with discussing job and labor policies, and promoting the development of labor-management relations.
“Labor-management issues are not simply issues between groups with different interests but must be discussed within the larger framework of our society’s sustainability,” Yoon said, according to presidential spokesperson Kim Soo-kyung.
“If we hold conversations with the common purpose of creating a sustainable future from the perspective of love for society, love for
future generations and patriotism for the country, no issue will be left unsolved,” he added.
The luncheon was attended by 16 council members, including Chairman Kim Moon-soo, Federation of Korean Trade Unions President Kim Dong-myeong, Korea Enterprises Federation Chairman Sohn Kyung-shik, Finance Minister Choi Sang-mok and Labor Minister Lee Jeong-sik.
