Australia has been active in promoting and strengthening Cambodia’s knowledge sector and evidence-based policymaking through Ponlok Chomnes: Data and Dialogue for Development.
According to the Australian Embassy in Phnom Penh, Ponlok Chomnes is fostering dialogue between the Cambodian Government, leading national research institutes, and civil society organisations on important policy questions.
It supports high-quality research – including on the impacts of COVID-19 on vulnerable groups, strategies to enhance service delivery, and strengthening resilience to COVID-19 in Cambodia and across ASEAN, said the source, adding that it also brings together diverse perspectives, particularly those of women, which leads to better public policy.
Ponlok Chomnes has been managed by The Asia Foundation since February 2019, and recently concluded Phase I. With support and contribution from all partners, the programme was able to host 35 policy dialogues/forums at national and sub-national level bringing more robust and responsive policies informed by evidence.
