Australia Supports Cambodia’s Commitment to Achieve SDG6

Australia is committed to helping Cambodia achieve Sustainable Development Goal 6 — universal access to safe, clean and secure water for all citizens.

The commitment was emphasised by the Australian Embassy in Cambodia in a news release issued on April 19.

The Government of Australia is currently supporting two WaterAid projects valued at around AU$500,000 through the Australian NGO Cooperation Programme, it added.

“Access to clean water and sanitation is a critical factor in meeting development needs. It underpins most aspects of healthy individuals, thriving communities and contributes to economic growth,” the source underlined.

Recently, the Ministry of Rural Development and WaterAid representatives have awarded journalists, media and youth groups for their work in promoting water, sanitation and hygiene.

According to the embassy, from 2014 to 2022, WaterAid has helped 400,000 people access clean water, 800,000 people with hygienic toilet facilities in five provinces, and 300,000 patients and healthcare workers with improved access to 31 healthcare centres and hospitals in four provinces.
