Beijing: Cambodia and China have committed to stronger bilateral cooperation to advance gender equality and women’s empowerment, following the recent high-level talks in Beijing. H.E. Dr. Ing Kantha Phavi, Cambodian Minister of Women’s Affairs, met with Madam Lin Yi, Vice President of the All-China Women’s Federation, on the sidelines of the recent Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the discussions focused on bolstering the strategic partnership between the two nations. Both officials reviewed the progress of the Memorandum of Understanding on ‘Strengthening Friendship and Cooperation in Promoting Gender Equality,’ along with the implementation of the ‘Small Yet Smart’ project and other strategic initiatives designed to enhance women’s roles in society.
H.E. Minister congratulated China on the successful organisation of the Global Leaders’ Meeting and praised the joint statement, which reaffirmed the international community’s dedication to gender equality. She specifically welcomed China’s global initiatives, including training programmes, development projects, and the establishment of new cooperation centres aimed at accelerating empowerment for women worldwide.
The officials also addressed the concerning global trend of slow progress and setbacks in improving the status of women, particularly noting that women and girls remain the most vulnerable populations during times of conflict.
On a separate and significant note, H.E. Dr. Ing Kantha Phavi requested that China, citing its strong commitment to global peace, provide regular monitoring assistance for the ceasefire between Cambodia and Thailand to help ensure stability and long-term peace in the region.
