Cambodia and Thailand Agree on Measures to Ease Tensions at Prasat Ta Moan Temple

Phnom Penh: Cambodia and Thailand have come to a consensus on strategies to alleviate tensions at the Prasat Ta Moan temple, situated in the Banteay Ampil district of Oddar Meanchey province along the border with Thailand.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, a press release from the Cambodia Ministry of National Defence on May 9 detailed the measures agreed upon by the two countries. The release aimed to clarify these agreements to prevent public misunderstanding potentially caused by fake news.

A senior delegation from the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces, along with relevant ministries and institutions, participated in the 17th Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee meeting held in Bangkok with their Thai counterparts. The meeting resulted in an agreement that both nations would maintain their troops at previously established positions along the border. Additionally, the agreement stipulated that only five soldiers from each country would be stationed at the temple itself.

While a complete withdrawal of troops from the temple was not discussed, both parties expressed a commitment to maintaining normal communication and regularly exchanging updates to prevent any clashes or misunderstandings. The Ministry of National Defence also condemned any news reports that do not accurately reflect the agreed facts.
