Cambodia and Vietnam to Enhance Cooperation and Explore New Areas

Phnom penh: Cambodia and Vietnam have expressed satisfaction with the progress in bilateral ties and fruitful cooperation, agreeing to enhance existing collaboration in various fields and explore new potential areas.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the agreement was reached by Deputy Prime Minister H.E. Prak Sokhonn, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia, and H.E. Le Hoai Trung, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam, during a courtesy video call on Thursday. The Cambodian top diplomat warmly congratulated H.E. Le Hoai Trung on his recent appointment as Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and as Secretary of the Party Committee of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam.

The two ministers recalled the recent visit of Samdech Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate of Cambodia, to Vietnam on September 1-2, 2025, to attend the commemoration of the 80th Anniversary of the August Revolution and Vietnam's National Day. During this visit, fruitful meetings were held with Party General Secretary To Lam, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, and National Assembly President Tran Thanh Man.

Deputy Prime Minister Prak Sokhonn highlighted the increasing and balanced bilateral trade exchanges and encouraged further strengthening and diversification of economic cooperation. Both ministers reaffirmed the strong traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation between the two neighbors, expressing their commitment to advancing bilateral ties across all fields and maintaining close coordination within ASEAN and other international fora. They also looked forward to further engagement, including the convening of the 21st Meeting of the Cambodia-Vietnam Joint Commission in the coming months.

The ministers exchanged views on regional security. Deputy Prime Minister Prak Sokhonn briefed his counterpart on the recent positive developments in de-escalating the Cambodia-Thailand border conflict, particularly the encouraging outcomes of the Special General Border Committee meeting in Koh Kong province, Cambodia, on September 10, 2025. He expressed appreciation for Vietnam's support of the Cambodia-Thailand ceasefire agreement and its contribution to the Interim Observer Team.
