Cambodia Ends Mandatory Facemask Wearing and Rapid Test for Mass Gathering

Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen this afternoon announced to end the mandatory facemask wearing and rapid test for COVID-19 at any mass gathering.

“Our New Year celebration was held without COVID-19 infections, therefore the Royal Government, at the request from Ministry of Health, would like to end the mandatory wearing of facemask […] and COVID-19 rapid test for any mass gathering,” he underlined in a voice message this afternoon.

Anyway, the Premier continued, one can choose to wear facemask or do a rapid test if s/he does not feel well.

“Tomorrow, I will preside over the inauguration ceremony of a Maternity Building at the National Pediatric Hospital. Even though mandatory facemask wearing and rapid test were revoked, any individual can do so if they wish,” he added.

This will reduce the expense on facemasks, rapid test kits, and medical treatment, Samdech Techo Hun Sen said.

At the same time, the Prime Minister still called on the Ministry of Health to further continue monitoring the COVID-19 situation and encouraged all to apply self-sanitation, especially hand washing.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen also took the opportunity to urge those who have any COVID-19 symptoms to isolate themselves and take good care of their respective health.

As of April 18, 2023, Cambodia has recorded a total of 138,726 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with only 3,056 deaths.
