Cambodia To Mark Annual Visak Bochea Day Tomorrow

Cambodia is going to celebrate the annual Visak Bochea Day, one of the biggest Buddhist ceremonies, on May 4.

Generally, this religious ceremony is celebrated on the top hill of Preah Reach Troap (Oudong) in Ponhea Leu district, Kandal province, where a stupa of Buddha’s relics is located.

This year’s celebration will be presided over by Samdech Krolahom Sar Kheng, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Interior and his spouse, with thousands of Buddhist followers including senior officials from the Parliament and government in attendance.

Visak Bochea Day, which is a birth, enlightenment, and nirvana day of Master Buddha, for the Buddhist countries, including Cambodia, was internationally recognised by the United Nations in 2000. It is a public holiday and an occasion where the Buddhist followers are reminded of Buddha and his teachings.
