Cambodian Prime Minister Congratulates Success of Extraordinary GBC Meeting in Malaysia

Kuala lumpur: Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, has extended his congratulations on the successful convening of the extraordinary meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee (GBC), held on Aug. 7, 2025, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The meeting was attended by representatives from Malaysia, the United States, and the People's Republic of China as observers.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, Samdech Thipadei highlighted in a social media post that the meeting aligns with a previously agreed-upon agenda between him and H.E. Phumtham Wechayachai, Acting Prime Minister of Thailand, during a Special Meeting in Putrajaya, Malaysia, on July 28, 2025. This earlier meeting was co-hosted by Malaysia and the United States, with China actively participating.

Samdech Thipadei reported that both Cambodian and Thai delegations discussed and reached consensus on critical issues such as a ceasefire arrangement and the enhancement of communication between their armed forces. They also agreed to develop terms of reference for the ASEAN Observer Team's ceasefire monitoring mechanism and to establish an Interim Observer Team, led by the Malaysian military attach©, to commence monitoring efforts immediately.

Furthermore, the two sides resolved to convene a joint Regional Border Committee (RBC) meeting within two weeks and a Cambodia-Thailand GBC meeting within a month following this extraordinary session. It was also agreed to organize further extraordinary GBC meetings in this format if deemed necessary.

During the meeting, Cambodia issued a call for the immediate release of 18 Cambodian soldiers currently held in Thai military custody.
