The Cambodian Mine Action Centre (CMAC) last week conducted a training on the use of landmine detection equipment for the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SESU).
According to a news release of the Embassy of Japan in Phnom Penh issued this afternoon, the training taking place from July 3 to 7 in Poland was to follow-up on a training programme held in Cambodia in January this year.
The equipment used in the training was developed in Japan and is expected to improve the efficiency of demining operations through the use of a radar that can determine the shape of mines while they are still buried, it pointed out.
“Japan has been supporting CMAC for many years through capacity building and the provision of equipment such as mine detectors. The government of Japan will continue to support CMAC in the sharing of its knowledge with Ukraine and other third-party countries,” the source said.
The training courses are part of the humanitarian mine action in Ukraine resulted from the joint commitment between Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, and Prime Minister of Japan, H.E. Kishida Fumio, in their bilateral meeting during the 2022 ASEAN Summits and Related Summits in Phnom Penh.
