CYDES 2023 TO SHOWCASE THE LATEST IN FIELD OF CYBER SECURITY

The Cyber Defence & Security Exhibition and Conference (CYDES) 2023 will showcase the latest in cyber security technology and innovations encompassing specialist products and solutions from local and foreign companies.

CYDES, which is a collaboration by the National Security Council (MKN), National Cyber Security Agency (NACSA) and Alpine Integrated Solution Sdn Bhd (Alpine), aims to raise awareness of the importance of acknowledging cyber threats and implementing cyber security.

Alpine chairman Tan Sri Mohd Khairul Adib Abdul Rahman said the event, involving government agencies, industry players from the private sector and academicians, will bring together cyber specialists from around the world.

“Numerous policymakers, enforcement agencies and technical specialists from a range of cyber security disciplines will share their expertise and experience in the field of cyber security,” he told Bernama in an exclusive interview here today.

“Nowadays, we can forget our wallets when leaving home and we would not go back for it. But if we forget our smartphones we will definitely turn back to get it, as we are completely dependent on digital platforms,” he said.

Mohd Khairul said cyber security issues are becoming more critical as societies are increasingly dependent on digital platforms, which also contain all our personal and financial data.

“This will be among the framework of discussions during CYDES 2023, which is expected to highlight the dangers of cyber threats and the related technologies involved,” he said.

There will be 200 exhibitors from 15 countries and 50 prominent individuals (VVIPs) taking part in CYDES 2023 and the ASEAN Cyber Security Forum comprised of heads of cyber security agencies will be held at the time too.

“It will be followed by the Malaysia Cyber Security Strategy (MCSS) Forum aimed at obtaining input on improving the Strategy, which ends its term in 2024.

“Apart from this, the ICT Security Officers Convention 2023 will also be held to increase awareness on the current landscape of cyber threats faced locally as well as on a global scale,” he said.

Speaking at the same interview, National Security Council director-general Datuk Raja Nushirwan Zainal Abidin said he hoped that hosting CYDES 2023 would propel Malaysia into the cyber security arena and educate society on the threats they face.

He said people still have a low awareness of cyber security and it must be increased because these threats are invisible.

“Although our virtual lives can mimic real life, we place more importance on safety in the real world compared to the virtual world. I hope events like CYDES 2023 can increase society’s awareness of this important issue,” he said.

Raja Nushirwan hoped CYDES 2023 would also spur Malaysia’s digital economy and strengthen the collaboration among the specialists on cyber security from government agencies, the private sector, industry players and academicians.

“We may see a few memorandums of understanding during CYDES, involving several prominent tech companies from abroad and the local private sector,” he said.

CYDES 2023 will be held from July 10 to 13 at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) here, with the theme of “Building Cyber Resilience: Safeguarding The Digital Future”.

The first CYDES was held in a full virtual format in 2021.
