IMPORTED RICE IS HOT ITEM IN KG JELATOK RAHMAH SALE

TANAH MERAH, The 10-kilogramme bag of imported rice in the Rahmah Sales at Dataran Durian, in Kampung Jelatok here is among the hot items in high demand.

Rubber tapper Suhaimi Mohd Shafie, 44, from Kampung Bukit Tebu, said he bought two bags at RM27.72 per bag compared to the RM44 market price.

“Although it is limited to two bags per person, it is still worth it as the rice will last my family of five for up to two months,” he told Bernama.

He said the Rahmah Sales is very beneficial to the less fortunate residents in the area because the prices are lower than market rates.

“This sale helps to reduce my family’s monthly expenses, especially during the rainy season now when my job as a rubber tapper is affected,” he said.

A villager from Kampung Belimbing, Siti Norhidayu Abdullah, 35, said the savings from the lower price tag for the rice enabled her to buy other necessities.

“I work as a shop assistant and my husband works in the village, so we need to budget before buying things, as prices have mostly gone up,” she said.

Meanwhile, Blimbey Mini Mart shop assistant, Muhammad Aziman Mohd Anuar said they stocked 200 10-kg bags of the imported rice for the sale.

“Rice, sugar, and cooking oil are among the items in high demand from customers.

“The one-day sale today is from 9 am to 6 pm. It is expected to benefit about 1,000 residents in the surrounding area,” he added.
