Phnom penh: Senior Minister H.E. Santepundit Chhay Sinarith, Chairman of the Secretariat of the Committee for Combating Technology Crimes (CCTC), received H.E. Ms. Kim Jina, Second Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea, during her working visit to Cambodia.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, H.E. Santepundit Chhay Sinarith emphasized the close cooperation between Cambodia and the Republic of Korea in multiple sectors, including politics, trade, economy, development cooperation, people-to-people exchanges, and security. He reiterated Cambodia’s commitment to combating online fraud operations and highlighted the arrest of over 3,400 suspects and the referral of 75 suspected ringleaders to court in the first four months of 2025.
H.E. Santepundit stressed the importance of trust and cooperation with international partners to prevent criminal networks from relocating or re-emerging. H.E. Ms. Kim Jina acknowledged the successful collaboration in tackling cross-border crimes, specifically online scams, and expressed gratitude for Cambodia’s assistance in repatriating Korean nationals and facilitating field inspections.
The meeting also covered future cooperation strategies, including information sharing and coordination for repatriating Korean citizens. The Korean delegation visited an online scam site in Takeo province, where Cambodian authorities have arrested and deported 180 Korean nationals involved in such scams. More than 60 are awaiting deportation to Korea.
