The Teluk Intan Municipal Council (MPTI) was declared the champion in the public/private building category in the Perak state-level 2023 National Month decoration contest for its patriotic sculptures made of recycled materials.
MPTI president Zairul Akmal Kasim said a team of 150 MPTI staff had worked on the sculptures since early August, and 90 per cent of the materials used were recycled, such as old zinc sheets and used tyres, and hundreds of Jalur Gemilang.
“Every year during the national month, MPTI is committed to putting up patriotism-themed decorations to instil the spirit of nationalism among our staff,” he said when contacted.
He said the decorations in the compound of the local authority building included sculptures of the iconic leaning tower of Teluk Intan, KLCC and a ship.
He said the interior of the building was also adorned with scores of Jalur Gemilang in the spirit of the National Month and Malaysia Day on Sept 16.
MPTI was declared the winner during yesterday’s state-level 2023 National Day celebrations, with the Tanjung Malim District Council taking the second prize and Perak Tengah District Council placing third.
The contest, one of several organised this year by the Perak state government in collaboration with the Department of Information, offered cash prizes totalling RM25,000.
There were also Secondary and Primary School categories, which gave out RM3,000, RM2,000 and RM1,000 as well as a plaque and certificate for the top three prizes.
