MTA ORGANISES TAKAFUL IN CAMPUS PROGRAMME IN SARAWAK, SHARES FINANCIAL LITERACY KNOWLEDGE

KUCHING, The Malaysian Takaful Association (MTA) held its inaugural Takaful In Campus programme involving students from three universities in Sarawak in conjunction with Financial Literacy Month.

MTA chief executive officer Mohd Radzuan Mohamed said the Takaful in Campus programme is specifically designed to provide in-depth information and knowledge on financial management to students.

He said the level of financial literacy among Malaysians is very low. Therefore, the MTA has used an approach similar to the programme to improve financial literacy in line with Bank Negara Malaysia's objective.

"In addition to providing information and knowledge, the Takaful In Campus programme also serves as a platform called ‘Shark Tank’ for students to express their ideas and views.

"Students usually think outside the box, and their ideas and views can be used in the industry in an effort to help improve financial literacy using relevant methods that are relevant to current needs," he said at the Takaful In Campus programme at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) here today.

Apart from Unimas students, the programme also involved students from MARA University of Technology (UiTM) Kota Samarahan Campus and Sarawak International College of Advanced Technology (i-CATS).

Mohd Radzuan said that in addition to the Takaful In Campus programme, the MTA will organise another such programme in Samariang which is the Takaful Masuk Kampung programme on Nov 18.

The Takaful Masuk Kampung programme has an edutainment concept (a combination of entertainment and education) which aims to provide exposure, guidance and education to the community on the importance of financial planning.
