NEGERI SEMBILAN ORANG ASLI ADVOCACY AND OUTREACH PROGRAMME WINS WSIS 2024 AWARD

PUTRAJAYA: The Advocacy and Outreach Programme for Orang Asli Villages in Negeri Sembilan has been named the champion for the World Summit on the Information Society Prizes 2024 Award (WSIS 2024).

The programme is an initiative implemented by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) in collaboration with the Negeri Sembilan Department of Orang Asli Development (JAKOA), the Broadcasting Department and the Negeri Sembilan Information Department.

MCMC said the programme won the award for the 5 Action Lines Category 5, which focuses on Building Confidence and Security in the Use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

“The success of MCMC’s initiative in winning the WSIS Award is proof of international recognition of projects developed by MCMC to empower digital inclusivity among the Orang Asli community through the provision of ICT access, as well as digital security and literacy,” MCMC said in a statement here today.

MCMC said the WSIS award will be presented at the WSIS Priz
es 2024 awards ceremony organised by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in Geneva, Switzerland on May 30.

The programme, which began in 2023, focuses on the targeted groups of children, teenagers and parents within the Orang Asli community to promote best practices in internet usage.

WSIS Prizes is an international competition developed to assess and recognise outstanding projects in implementing development-oriented strategies that leverage ICT as a catalyst of development.
