Phnom penh: Cambodian Military Region 4 and Thai 2nd Army Area held a Special Regional Border Committee (RBC) Joint Secretariat Meeting at O'Smach border checkpoint in Oddar Meanchey province this morning, in preparation for the upcoming special meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand RBC.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the Cambodian delegation was led by Brigadier General Nit Narong, Deputy Chief of Staff of Military Region 4, while the Thai delegation was headed by Brigadier General Kamphaknak Vapansoo, Chief of Staff of the 2nd Army Area, with the presence of the ASEAN Observer Teams (AOT) stationed in Cambodia and Thailand to monitor, verify, and ensure the full and effective implementation of the ceasefire.
The meeting aimed to discuss and prepare a concrete plan for the gradual and phased removal of heavy weapons from both sides, under the observation and verification of the AOT, with the joint objective of de-escalating military tension.
This meeting reflected the commitment of both parties to uphold and implement the agreements adopted in the Joint Declaration between Cambodia and Thailand, signed in Kuala Lumpur on Oct. 26, 2025, as well as the outcomes of the Second Special Meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) held in Malaysia on Oct. 23, 2025, in a sincere and good-faith.
It should also be noted that, following the signing of the Joint Declaration, as a gesture of goodwill, both parties began the first phase of partial removal by withdrawing two armored vehicles each to their original positions at 9:00 PM on Oct. 26, 2025.
The Special Cambodia-Thailand RBC Joint Secretariat Meeting between the Cambodian Military Region 4 and the Thai 2nd Army Area achieved significant positive progress in accordance with the meeting's agenda, in preparation for the special RBC meeting to be held in the afternoon.
