PUTRAJAYA, The local authorities (PBT) that won the Smart City Rating Award at the Malaysia Urban Planning Awards (MUPA) will receive a grant of RM200,000 starting next year, the Ministry of Local Government Development (KPKT) secretary-general Datuk M Noor Azman Taib said.
The grant will enable the respective PBTs to fund the implementation of projects or activities related to smart city development in their localities.
"Previously, our recognition for PBT was limited to certificates and trophies. However, with the introduction of grants, there's no longer a need for PBT to seek approvals from KPKT when implementing projects or programmes," he told reporters after inaugurating the World Town Planning Day Celebration (HPBS) 2023 at the national level here today.
He added that the allocation of grants will begin with the recipients of the Smart City Rating Award before being extended to the other two awards contested through MUPA, namely the Excellent Sustainable Development Award and Sustainable City Recognition.
MUPA is a platform to recognize PBT and developers for providing the best quality municipal services in their respective localities.
