Banteay meanchey: A high-level delegation led by Dr. Thun Vathana, Second Vice President of the Senate of Cambodia, visited the Cambodia-Thailand border area to assess the situation of families displaced by recent incidents. The delegation, which included representatives from prominent international chambers of commerce-including those from the United States, Europe, Australia, Israel, India, the Philippines, and Singapore-as well as private sector leaders, went to Chork Chey and Prey Chan villages in O’ Beichoan commune, O’ Chrov district.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the visit followed reports that Thai soldiers had allegedly expelled 12 Cambodian families from their homes on August 12-13 and enclosed the area with barbed wire. During the visit, Dr. Thun Vathana met with the affected residents and affirmed that the Royal Government of Cambodia, led by Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, is addressing the issue with patience and diplomacy. He noted the Royal Government’s approach aligns with a ceasefire agreement that has been in effect since July 28, 2025.
Dr. Thun Vathana also extended greetings and words of encouragement from Acting Head of State Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen and Cambodian Red Cross President Samdech Kittiprittpundit Bun Rany Hun Sen, both of whom have shown ongoing concern for the welfare of border communities. To help the families, the vice president distributed relief items.
He urged local residents and security forces to trust the Royal Government’s leadership in resolving the conflict, stressing the need for perseverance and unity. The delegation also held a working meeting with H.E. Oum Reatrey, Governor of Banteay Meanchey, and H.E. Dith Tina, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, who leads the Royal Government Working Group for the province. The discussions focused on understanding the local geography and coordinating an effective response strategy.
