Siem Reap to Host “World Kun Khmer” Late This Month

World Kun Khmer,” a Khmer martial arts event, will be organised in Siem Reap province, home to the famed Angkor Wat, late this month.

The plan was shared with the media recently by H.E. Vath Chamroeun, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports, and Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC).

To take place from Nov. 26 to 28, the World Kun Khmer is expected to attract the participation of athletes from many countries, contributing to enhancing friendship with those countries, said the secretary of state.

As of now, athletes from 12 countries in Europe and Asia, especially ASEAN, have signed up for the sport-level competition, which is not a professional or for-profit challenge.

Over 60 countries in the world are now members of Kun Khmer, according to H.E. Vath Chamroeun.

In 2024, Cambodia will host the World Kun Khmer General Assembly in Siem Reap province, with the participation of delegates from the member countries.

Cambodia is ambitious to promote Kun Khmer at Asian and Olympic levels in the future, he added.

Kun Bokator and Kun Khmer were listed in the charter and rule of the Southeast Asian Games Federation (SEAGF) in a council meeting held in Phnom Penh on May 4, 2023, under the chairmanship of H.E. Thong Khon, Chairman of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC), with the participation of the Olympic Committees of the ASEAN members.
