The Commemoration of Statesman Tun Dr Ismail Al-Haj – the Pillar of National Unity ceremony to be held in conjunction with the National Month celebrations at Dataran Merdeka this Wednesday, will be enlivened with a special exhibition, the Wall of Memories, which will display the life chronology of the statesman.
Communications and Digital Ministry’s deputy secretary-general (Strategic Communications and Creative Industries) Mastura Ahmad Mustafa said the exhibition is being held in collaboration with the Information Department and the National Archives Department.
“Dr Ismail’s life journey is indeed unique as he was among the individuals involved in the negotiations for independence, a Cabinet Minister, the first Malaysian Ambassador to America and to the United Nations (UN), left the world of politics, and then returned to lead the country as Deputy Prime Minister when needed.
“So we want the new generations to see how Dr Ismail’s helped built the country that enabled us to be where we are now,” she said when appeared as a guest on TV AlHijrah’s ‘Assalamualaikum’ programme today.
Mastura said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is scheduled to officiate the ceremony to commemorate the statesman, which will also be attended by Dr Ismail’s family members.
She said a short documentary film on Dr Ismail’s life journey, prepared by the National Film Development Corporation of Malaysia, will also be shown at the event.
There will also be a tahlil ceremony and Yasin recitation at the National Mosque on Wednesday evening, organised by the Department of Islamic Development (Jakim).
