KUALA LUMPUR, Second Lieutenant Chan Ming Youn, 25, emerged as the sole Chinese candidate to successfully complete the 12-week Basic Commando Course at the Special Warfare Training Centre (PULPAK) in Sungai Udang, Melaka.

In a video shared on Facebook by the Malaysian Army News, the Setapak native was conferred the Special Forces Green Beret and Commando Knife during the closing ceremony at PULPAK yesterday, by the Commander of the 21st Special Service Group (21 GGK) and Special Service Regiment chairman, Major General Adi Ridzwan Abdullah.

Reflecting on his achievement, Chan expressed that his interest in joining the commando training arose after participating in the Territorial Army programme, and he aimed to demonstrate that a Territorial Army serviceman could also become a commando.

The accounting student at Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (UTAR) mentioned that his membership in the 515th Regiment of the Territorial Army had also fueled his interest in gaining more military knowledge.

“My goal
is to continue serving in the commando unit, acquire more knowledge, undergo specialised courses, and become a qualified commando who always upholds the honour of this unit throughout my lifetime,” he stated in the video.

Nine officers and 60 other personnel of various ranks successfully completed the 12-week training.
