Second Vice Foreign Minister Kang In-sun has met with Senegales President Bassirou Faye in the western African country to discuss the upcoming leaders’ summit between South Korea and African nations, Seoul’s foreign ministry said Friday.
As a presidential envoy, Kang held talks with President Faye in the capital city of Dakar on Thursday (local time), the ministry said in a press release.
Faye, who took office as Senegal’s fifth president last month, engaged in discussions with Kang regarding the South Korea-Africa summit scheduled for June 4-5 in Seoul.
During the meeting, Kang emphasized that the summit presents an opportunity for significant enhancement of bilateral cooperation between the two countries. She also sought Senegal’s support and active participation in the gathering.
Kang expressed expectations for further the deepening of bilateral cooperation across various sectors, particularly in agriculture and digital industries.
In response, the young Senegalese President said his country shares c
ommon values with South Korea, which has achieved remarkable democratic and economic development in a short period.
He further assured Kang of Senegal’s active support for the successful hosting of the summit.
Additionally, Kang held a separate meeting with Senegal’s foreign minister, Yassine Fall, the ministry said.
Kang is on a weeklong two-nation trip as a presidential envoy, which also included a previous stop in Cameroon.
