WIPO Admires Cambodia for IP Promotion in the Country and Region

World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) has appreciated Cambodia for her effort to take part in intellectual property (IP) promotion in the country and the region for economic, social and cultural development.

The admiration was made by H.E. Daren TANG, Director General of the WIPO, while he was meeting with H.E. Mrs. CHAM Nimul, Minister of Commerce, at WIPO Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland on May 7.

In addition, H.E. Daren TANG commended Cambodia’s progress in doing marketing for potential geographical indication (GI) products such as Kampot Pepper, Kampot Kep Salt, Mondulkiri Wild Honey, and attractive packaging which has transformed those products into premium ones.

The WIPO Director General further requested Cambodia to participate in some IP-related projects which last from 8 to 12 months with WIPO’s special projects team for trade promotion through IP.

For her part, H.E. Mrs. CHAM Nimul, underscored the importance of IP in trade promotion, new business promotion and micro, small and med
ium enterprises (MSMEs), foreign direct investment (FDIs), promotion of innovation, research, and development through technological transference, to name a few.

The minister also requested WIPO to support Cambodia on the amendment of trademark laws, the implementation of IP policy and IP related projects, and dissemination of IP benefits to farmer associations, business associations as well as university students.

She also thanked WIPO for its continued support to Cambodia since the country’s accession to WIPO in 1995.
